What will the car do if the opti spark sensor goes bad?
Would the car go into a mode that it runs, little power, bad timing that can't be adjusted, Heavy black smoke, spitting carbon piles out the rear, high fuel use rate. RPM flux at idle and surging while driving. These problems came and went all week and are now not going. Do I have the correct thoughts?
hey bro, I had the exact samething, its the coolant sensor in the front of the motor....$..19,fixed it.try it,let me know.I had to pull all my plugs, plus I put a mega blaster coil from M.S.D. 48,000 volts helps

Very similar things happened to me when one of my O2 sensors became oil fouled (CHECK YOUR CODES)... Eventually it became undriveable once it got up to temp. And you shouldn't have to be adjusting your timing on an Optispark Vette anyway... PLEASE fill out your profile so that your questions can be answered properly -- what year/engine is your Vette?
EDIT: Just to add... my problem was isolated to the right side (right side O2 was fouled) Primarily the right side was smoking heavy black smoke. Soon after, I gutted my cats -- both were broken, but the right side was poisoned and partially clogged as well). Bottom line is that you need to check your codes... If it is an O2 error then try to figure out why (it may not be a faulty O2) -- But as I said, in my case it had oil drip all over it and it was toast -- a new one (with the connector tie wrapped out of the way) has kept me problem free since.
EDIT#2: -- Judging by other posts of yours... you DO NOT HAVE an OptiSpark. Please fill out your profile.

Could be any number of things, or several at once. What codes is it throwing?
