Dave,
I bought mine from Eckler's but it was the non-velcro original type shield. Bear in mind that the clamp at the base of the EGR tube is real PITA to replace. The old clamp will have to be cut off and a new one crimped on in order to join the EGR pipe to the exhaust manifold. I bought a special tool from Grainger's that worked really well. The tool is manufactured by "Oetiker" and is listed as part #4E608 Side Jaw Pincer. I tried ten different tools and this is the only one that worked on the first try. Also, buy extra clamps just in case you ruin some in the process. I would try your local Chevy dealer for the shield and clamps, the shield I bought from Eckler's turned dark brown really quickly??? I'm trying to get them to replace it.
If your talking about the high temp sleeve that goes over the EGR tube it usually comes with the tube itself. ( at least thats how it is for the LT1 ) The only place that may have it seperate is GM. Or, you could check into Summit and see if they have a heat sleeve thats comparable and just cut it to fit.
Thanks guys...
After looking in Eckler's, the EGR tube looks like it is just that, the tube...it doesn't have the shield on it.
I'm going to try The Dealership   :nono: hopefully the sell the shield itself.
By the way...what is the shield actually made of? It looked like asbestos when I peeled the remaining "clumps" off of the tube.

P.S. I actually put the aftermarket velcro sleeve on the bare EGR tube in February without thinking   umm, yeah...pretty stupid. After choking on the toxic gas I removed the melted plastic.
I complained about the EGR tube heat shield to Grodon Killebrew and he said to just get a stock GM replacement. That sounded like the new shield would slip over the mounting flange at one end of my EGR tube (didn't look like it would to me). Guess I'll have to get one and try it.
The opening in the shield only fits over the tube from the bottom where the tube is clamped to the exhaust manifold. I tried pulling it over the flange but it wasn't even close to fitting. The new pipe that comes with a new shield only saves you the time in slipping the shield over the pipe and you get a new pipe. Trust me, the real job is crimping the clamp at the base of the pipe. Without the special tool, you can't do it.

You are correct, except this car in question is an 88
We are fortunately not plagued with the horse ring
EGR tubes changed sometime I think in 86 or 7 so that now they have torx screws on both ends
I feel your pain  but don't have to actually suffer it!
Jack,
You are absolutely correct. I forgot about the change in late '86 to the torx screws on both ends. The GM engineers that designed the horse ring must laugh their a22es off every time they think about the pain they are causing some poor slob who is trying to replace it.
You might want to consider picking up a later model exhaust manifold
True, but at some point (88?) the exhaust ports changed to the "D" shaped opening and that manifold may not retro to the '86 heads. Maybe '87 is the only year that has it all?
