We have an awesome deal on Taylor wires in our Corvette Forum mall. Check it out. They have worked flawlessly on everything that we have put them on. I am extremely happy with them.
Thanks,
Magnecor, definatly. http://www.magnecor.com
Buy from Lingenfelter though, not direct from Magnecor.
I think Taylor bites. Know 3 people(including myself) that have had problems.
I installed Accel Extreme 9000 wires on my '86 iron head last year and they have performed very well in all heat conditions. No complaints after 5,000 miles.
If you just want OEM style I can recommend a set of BOSCH. They were an exact match for fit and boot style on my '96. As far as wires go, 8.5mm won't do crap for ya. Low resistance does nothing but introduce more RFI.
You can't get extra performance from wires. Don't let anyone tell you different.
The best you can expect from "performance wires" is a good boot and connector, a decent core sheath and good core crimping/soldering. Oh, and they come in different colors. Hopefully others can make a good recommendation on some "high quality" wires that'll work for you.
If I'm not mistaken your '86 has the tabs and retaining ring on the distrib end of the wires. It's tough to find those kind of ends. I believe that TPIS sells a black colored High performance with the OEM style ends. Also the house brand plug wire that Trak Auto sells, XACT brand, has the OEM style ends and a grey colored wire. FWIW, the current AC Delco wires do not have the OEM style ends / retainer. :(
FWIW, I put Trak house brand wires on my Blazer. It it rains and there was any wind blowing mist or rain into the grille, the engine would not start due to moisture shorting out the low quality plug wires. I had to replace them. I would *never* install such crap on my Corvette!
