I am installing a transmision cooler and was thinking about getting a temp gauge. Where would be the best place to install the sensor. In the pan, the line running to radiator, or is there some other spot.
Some guys screw them in the trans line near the rad. Some screw it into the pressure port on the drivers side of the trans case. You can also screw it into a drain plug bung that is installed in the pan. A nice way to do it is to add a remote trans filter. This allows for running an automotive oil filter and it usually has a port in the adapter for a temp sensor. Many options.
Pete,
I've always been curious about running an ext oil filter for the trans(in addition to the internal one), is there enough pressure to push the fluid thru it?
OP:
I threaded the sensor into the "inspection" port on the driver side of the case. Works ok.
We have run them on drag cars with no ill leffects. I personally have never run one on my car. Your question is a good one though. I would not be afraid to run them on a 700 with a larger boost valve. They really raise the line pressures.
