Help - 89 when starting will run a few seconds and die. It takes 6-10 re-starts when engine is cold and has been setting several days. Once the car stays running it is fine expect on occassion it will cut-out (no power) when at constant speed for a few seconds. When starting the car after it has warmed up it will start on the second or third try instead of the 6-10 with a cold engine. At no time does car start the first time.
Car has 48,000 miles and is all original with no modifications. I have owned car for the past 10-years with no problems. Corvette Factory trained mechanics have worked on the car in the last year several times with no success. The following has been done or observed by several GM mechanics.
No codes exist
Complete tune-up done ie; plugs, fuel pressure checks, distributor cap ect.
All eight injectors replaced
Intake manifold gasket replaced
Engine cleaner used to clear carbon from valves
Throttle control adjusted and idle speed increased
GM dealer and a Corvette Speciality Shop have been unable to repair.
I would check fuel pressure when the key is turned "on"..should be in the neighborhood of 40 psi. Might help to tape the guage to the windshield when driving and observe when it cuts out. Make sure the injector are receiveing signal when trying to crank with a noid light or test light. Make sure your getting spark when trying to crank. There is more troubleshooting to do once you confirm the above. Others will advise too.
you mentioned you replaced the injectors. What type and rating of injector did you place into the engine? How many miles since the injector change. Did the GM dealer and Vette speciality shop use a scan tool on the engine? The 89 model year has to make two complete crankshaft revolutions before the injectors will fire......except for my 89 My best guess there is something going on with the IAC motor.
