I have a 1996 LT1. I had some new Michellins put on at Discount Tires. In the process of putting the tires on they broke/damaged the right front tire sensor. They said no problem, they would order a new one. Well I have found out through my local Corvette dealer that the sensors are no longer made and that they would have to be purchased at a place like Ecklers if they have them. Now when I am driving my "service LTPWS" light comes on.
My question is do I need any sensors at all. And if I do, will driving with just three do something to my system. The tires are not run flats and all have been balanced. Thanks in advance for any help out there.
Doubt it will cause any problem other that having to look at the display. Try Junkyard warrior, they may have some. The sensors are color coded if I remember correctly. I will sent you their page if I can find it.
I was under the impression that GM was out of stock of the front LEFT LTPWS sensors, not the front right. I might suggest you to contact Hank Engel (partsman427@starfishnet.com) for information on a new source of replacement sensors he told me about. Hank is the Parts Manager at Kurtis Chevrolet in Morehead City, NC and knows his Corvette parts!
At any rate, driving with the warning light on won't hurt anything. I know some folks have simply removed the bulb when they wanted to eliminate the troublesome LTPWS sensors.
A local Corvette salvage yard in Indiana sales them for $75 each. I think you get a 90 day warranty. I believe one of the batteries or the receiver is failing in my `92's LTP unit because I get that stupid "Service LTPWS" light about one out of 10 times when driving now. :smash:
