i've seen a number of lower hoses collapse, never an upper, its just an age/ heat thing, nothing to do with a/c....a car that runs ok under light loads but overheats if you twist it up may have a lower hose collapsing-- sitting still with the engine warmed up and revving the engine you can see it happen.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to change them out this weekend.
I have a 90 convertible. My upper radiator hose also collapses when it cools. I thought it needed replaced so did so. It didn't make any difference. The new one also does it. I think it is because there is not a spring inside the hose to support it. It doesn't seem to cause any problem as it opens up when the engine is running warmed up.
Check your cap and line to the coolant reservoir.
Your hose's are collapsing because the cap or the line will not allow any/enough coolant return in to the system upon cooling.
Good Luck

My friend's did that too. Check your overflow tank to see if it's fuller when it cold.
I change his radiator cap and it corrected the problem.
