96 LT1 Crank Position Sensor Relearn
A friend has a 96 LT1 engine and a swapped out PCM from a tuner. It keeps throwing a code for the crank position sensor - P0336: Crank Position Sensor Performance. According to the programmer it is common with PCM swaps.
I put a TECH2 on it and the CKP is working. According to the Service Manual it triggers when the engine rpm and the CKP differ by more than 75rpm under certain conditions. However, nowhere in the Service Manual can I find how to perform a relearn function like with a C5 Vette.
I searched this forum but couldn't find anything that would help. If anyone has experiened this and has a suggestion, would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe..

There isn't a relearn function for the CPS on the '96. It either works or it doesn't. The error code can be programmed out.
FWIW, I've never heard of this problem on a '96 resulting from a PCM swap.

I thought the visual sensor for detecting the crankshaft's position was a part of the Optispark... or are there other sensors on the engine that can detect this as well?

I've never heard of this issue either because of a PCM swap. I have several PCMs with different tunes and swap them with no issues.

Melting Slicks
I only hsd two situations whre I had a crank position error, one when I had the timing off one tooth., the other when I first rebuilt the engine and I was having some misfire issues... Also some may be if you are using the extreme timing gear set... Aside form that it is only a hall effect type sensor sensing the teeth on the reluctor gear.
Hope this helps...
