Default 1996 LT4 drive belt

I have a 1996 LT4 and replacing the dive belt. Having a hard time putting back on. The belt is the correct one. Is there any tricks on putting it back on. Any order around the pulleys 1st to last.
Any help would be great. Phillip

Well, make sure you have the idler puller over as far ar it will go, I found in the past that if you remove the air intake tube and the small line from the rad hose above the pully, the job will go alot smoother. because you get an extra inch or two to cam the pully over

Start routing the belt from the bottom pully up, making the ac pully your last pull over....

Good luck

I route the belt on all of the pulleys except the alternators, compress the tensioner, then slide it over the alt's pulley.

Thanks for the info. Only five min. to take off the belt and a long time to put back on. The idler pulley was max out. and the belt was still a 1/4" short of going over the alt's pulley. After some choice words with the belt it decided to go on. Should this belt slide back on easy, or do you need to fight with it?

I found that the idler pulley should be the last to be put on. If you look at all the other pulleys there is a small lip to keep the belt on the pulley. On the idler pulley there is no lip, it make the belt slip on with no problm because you don't have to go over the added dia. of the lip on the pulley. The special tool to use for the idler pulley is nothing more simple than a 1/2 in power bar . Carefully place it on the idler to give the right clearence in the pull direction. I hope this help next time. It allways works for me. les

I should add that the belts always come off easier because the belt is already streched out, unlike the new belt with no stretch in it yet. An old belt always goes on easier , already strecthed out. Les

I purchased from Summit Racing a "serpentine belt tool" for $15.00. It makes the job a 5 minute job. Its a two piece tool with four bits. Sears also sells it for twice the price.
