I believe it needs to be removed from the ecm chip...there are a number of forum chip tuners who are able to do this...
I had it removed from mine along with egr and air functions when I had my chip tuned by tjwong.
I did this because my vats module was faulty...if it had have been just the contacts in the ig. barrel, I would have done the simple/cheap resistor key by-pass.

its "VATS" not "vatts"
1 - get a new PCM. pcmforless.com can program them out of your system and give you some more horses at the same time.
2 - I forgot the thread title, but there are a few with links to complete diagrams of VATS for all the crap you have to remove.
This is going to be this weekend's project for me actually. My new chip comes in tomorrow or sat, and sunday will be spent ripping it all out.
