C4 Rack and Pinion:
In my quest to continue to reduce weight from my 1984 I am looking for a manual rack and pinion. I would like something that will basically bolt into my C4. My entire front end is off the car and if there is a time to do this install it is now while the nose is totally bare. I did an internet search and didn't come up with anything and was wondering if anyone has done this conversion and if you did it which one you used.
Installed a manual rack on the '90 last winter. Tried to use a Pinto unit first but got to much toe change thru the travel, had a custom width unit built no more problem. Handles great and drives around the pits like any other manual car.

Good luck,

I just sent you a pm. Thanks for commenting in this thread. I am needing some help.
How many of you have used your stock rack but eliminated the pump, eliminated the bracket and simply looped the line and used it as a manual rack? I obviously know it is going to be a hard turn but I am curious how many of you have done this?

Sam, you know mine is done that way and it’s tough to steer. NeverLift needs to move my rack forward to clear the BB balancer so some cutting needs to be done and it will be done with the motor out.
I have been doing extensive research for a lightweight replacement rack and have had absolutely zero luck. I don't want to have one fabricated from scrap so this has been my best idea so far. Wonder if neverlift would build a bunch of them at once and sell them? I can assure you I would be buying one today if they were available. My rough estimate is that if I remove the pump, bracket and lines I would save 12 to 15 lbs...does that seem about right?

Ya, I would get a manual direct replacement rack just for the short term even knowing I’d have to change with the engine swap.
I’d say 12 lbs is about right.
