does anyone out there take time to look after (treat) the rubber seals around the doors and targa?
if so, what do you do/use, do you take the roof off?
i notice a few slithery little cracks in my seal at the back of the targa panel.
i want to sorta prolong the life of it as much as possible, its so expensive importing from the us.
Once a month I pull the targa off and wash all the weather strips with a 10% woolite + distilled water solution. I use a cheap M/F towel to wash and then use a spray bottle of distilled water and another cheap M/F towel for the rinse & dry operation. Last step is 303 protectant spray and another cheap M/F towel to work it into the strips.
The wash towel gets dirty and the 303 towel gets dirty but it seems to squeak less over rough roads....I can't honestly say that my steps do a darn thing to help preserve the weather stripping. I know all this rigamarole don't do anything for the window leaks!
The M/F towels I get at COSTCO, they come 10 / pkg for about $10(?), they're the yellow ones & great for stuff like this...glass, seats, carpets spots, under hood stuff, wheel house liners, dash, etc.
I don't really clean mine, but at least once a year, I spray/wipe down with silicone spray. I do it on all my cars, can't say if it helps or not but they don't seem to get any worse.
Silicone spray. Up here we get it from Canadian tire. I spray all the rubber everywhere, even the hood seal, anything I can find about every 6 weeks or so. Use lots, it won't hurt anything. The rubber stays supple, and the stuff actually smells good lol.
My Jimmy is going on 11 years old and the seals are like brand new. The Corvette, well, they were already pretty bad when I got it but the silicone is maintaining them from further deterioration until I can replace them.
Awesome, thanks people,
ive been putting on some rubber/plastic protectant oil, but wasnt sure wether there is something else i should be doing, it just seems too easy
