I just checked my oil and tanny fluid levels today and to my surprise my tranny fluid level was at the bottom hole for add 1 quart. I checked for any fluid leaks under the car and nothing is showing any signs of leaking. I've never had a problem with the tanny fluid leaking or the level going down since i've owned the car either. I am however probably due for a fluid change since the color is turning slightly brown. Fluid does not spell burned though.
Why am I loosing fluid is this norm for old fluid that needs to be changed or do I have a problem somewhere? Also car drives and shifts normally, no problems at all.
Make sure when you're checking the fluid, you are doing it while the car is running, in park and on level ground. If I'm not mistaken, if you pull the dipstick and the car is cold (fluid and dipstick shouldn't be warm to the touch), then the fluid level should be between the 2 dots. The difference in the dipstick reading can vary by 3/4" (?) between hot and cold fluid measurements.
If the car has been driven for a while or the dipstick/fluid is hot, then it should show between the lines.
Checked levels cold and warm on level driveway. Definetly low on fluid. Almost a half quart.
It is however time for a fluid change. I've been thinking about using the B&M trick shift fluid. They have an original and a synthetic. Anyone have any experience using this on a 86 C4 with an auto tanny?
Or any suggestions on the best fluid to use on the auto '700-R4 tranny?
I don't know anything about the B&M or synthetic tranny fluids. I used Advance Auto's brand of Dexron III when I flushed mine. Mainly because it came in gallon jugs.
The last time I read a bottle of trick shift fluid, it was not compatible with lock up converters. Read it before you buy. If it still is the case, do NOT use it.
