As posted some time ago, there was noticeable "creaking" coming from under the car that only happened after the engine was fairly hot (e.g., hot enough to turn on the secondary fans like with the ac on). I finally brought the car to my local Vette mechanic for brakes and also asked him to check out the creaking. Based on a drive around the block he suspected bushings.
He discovered the swaybar bushings were shot and replace them (are these the same as the stabilizer bar insulators?). Anyway, the car seems to run much quieter (no creaks) and I received another bonus. I had been putting up with constant clunks and clanks that would happen when starting from a stop and I had thought this was something to do with the differential. It turns out that replacing the swaybar bushings also resulted in these noises essentially disappearing.
Does anyone know how replacing swaybar bushings can cure noises that sounded like differential?
I guess that is the obvious answer but I still thought that the clunks sounded more like gear noises. A couple of years ago when I had similar unusual noises, the dealer got rid of them by tightening the wheel bearings.
