I'm getting an H64 - Right side O2 sensor lean - on my '92 M6 with 110k on it. I replaced both original O2 sensors last weekend and reset the code but it came back the past 3 days. My SES will light about twice during my 25 mile commute at various times.
Any thoughts on why I still have this code showing up?
I did buy and install Bosch O2 sensors. Why would they be the problem? I've used the same part number on other GM vehicles before without problems.
I replaced the fuel injectors (original) about 6k ago with the Ford pink tops, at the same time I replaced the fuel filter (also original). I started getting poor fuel economy a couple of months ago when the H64 would pop up from time to time.
I haven't checked the fuel pressure. Beyond that, what other fuel related problems could cause a rich condition?
I went through a batch of Bosch O2 sensors this past spring. To start with, the "original" Bosch O2's were in there about a year when the codes started to pop... I replaced both (as I always do, if one is failing, the other isn't far behind). Then one of the new ones failed within about 30 about days... I replaced it... and then the replacement failed!!! I replaced it and the other one failed!!! ****!!!! I replaced both with Denso and have had zero problems.
I just don't have the warm fuzzy w/Bosch that I used to have.
I've used Bosch in the past with out problems, not to say they won't/shouldn't do it. Do you have an exhaust lean before the O2 sensor? Any extra O2 entering the exhaust stream will cause a lean condition.

I did have the code before I changed out the O2 sensor. From what I can tell from the smell, plugs and the gas mileage is that it is running rich. I figured the computer was trying to compensate for the lean code at the O2 sensor by using more fuel.
Bogus - Did you buy the Denso sensors at a local parts store? I couldn't find them at the places I called locally.

Sorry about that. It's misleading. I mean to say do you have an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor?

The ECM is trying to add more fuel because the O2 sensor is sending a lean exhaust (low voltage) back to the ECM, thus the smell, plugs are probably black, and the gas mileage is suffering. The best way to go about this is to get your hands on a FSM. Troubleshooting is the only way to find out what the problem is. It could be a bad O2 sensor (not likely), bad connection at the sensor, wire touching the exhaust or has a open in the circuit, wire grounded on something, could be an exhaust leak letting air enter the exhaust stream, problem with circiut at the ECM, or ECM itself. The FSM will tell you what to fix.

Thanks,

Yes, the original O2 more then likely died. Fine...
What I am saying is that the replacements just haven't impressed me with their durability.
You can get Denso at Autozone, about $25.00 each, may require ordering.
