Thoughts anyone, really miss being able to shred my tires
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (89VetteWIP)
Code 32 is probably your EGR temp switch. It is on the tube from the exhaust to the intak near the EGR valve. Code 36 could be a bad MAF relay, on my 87 they are located behind the battery. They are the MAF power and burn off relay. I would replace both and clean the connections real well. Alos check the connection at the MAF sensor. I would bet the poor running is caused by a bad MAF power relay.
If the engine idles that high with IAC disconnected it in probably because the IAC did not close before it was disconnected. Ground the A and B terminals for 30 seconds with ignition "on" to give the IAC time to close. The IAC could also be stuck open but it would probably always idle hih if that were the case. Fix the other problems first and then come back to this one.
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (89VetteWIP)
Start by replacing both your MAF sensor relays. I had a code 36 last summer and the car ran really bad. Replacing both relays fixed the problems and the car ran great.
They are a low cost maintenance item, I think they cost about $10 each.
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (weekendwrench)
OK, couldn't find an EGR temp switch and that is honestly the least of my problems... Replaced both MAF relays.. MUCH better, not right yet. Cleaned TB and installed NEW IAC... NOW CAR IDLES HIGHER!!!! WTF!!!!!!

2hrs from a friggin for sale sign. Any more thoughts.. PS, tranny is shot so I think that's part of my performance issue
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (89VetteWIP)
I can understand that if you have cleaned the throttle plates and they were realy bad you could get a rase in idle anagi especialy if the idle was manualy adjusted up to cover a stalling condition. Are you sure the throttle plates are closing all the way it would not be unuasual to find that the throttle plates could stick, over time the cross shaft on the throttle plates can cut into the aluminim throttle body and bind especialy while idling. Also you may have to drive the car after replacing the IAC in order for the ECM to reset it to enable to get correct idle. But if you know the throttle plates are closed and have not been adjusted open more to help with a stalling condition the other possibility is a vacumm leak this to can give you a high idle. A code 32 should only set on the highway unless the temp. switch fro the EGR is shorted, but again a code 32 would not cause a running condition problem unless the EGR was stuck open which is not a real common problem but does happen from time to time.
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (89VetteWIP)
mr Fincher, you're a much brighter man than I. There is however more you should know....
With IAC set in VIA diagnostic mode, and then unplugged.. she idles at 700rpm... With the IAC REMOVED the blades won't close completely.... I back the screw out and the trottle stop doesn't return all the way.. throttle body is SPOTLESS.. also tried setting TPS at 4.68 at WOT, when it came back it sits at 1.01 at idle... Time for a new throttle body?
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (89VetteWIP)
First of all, it doesn't appear as if the IAC was fully seated in the throttle body for the minimum air adjustment. Try the whole procedure one more time. Make sure the engine is warm and in closed loop. All accessories should be off, including the fan. Automatics should be adjusted in Park; Manuals in neutral. Set the TPS to .54 with engine off, ignition on. Ground the ALDL pins with the ignition on. Wait a few seconds (leaving the ignition on) and pull the IAC connector off. Disconnect the Timing Wire. Start the engine and adjust the idle to 425 RPMS +/- 25 RPM. Turn off the engine. Readjust TPS to .54. Reconnect the timing wire. Clear all codes from the ECM. Reset the IAC as follows: Depress accelerator slightly. Start and run the engine for 5 seconds. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Restart and check proper idle operation.
Re: Code 36 and Code 32 car runs HORRIBLY (weekendwrench)
I just had to replace my MAF, I couldn't figure it out (no codes or engine light), but the problem was my car was acting like it was starvin for fuel (it was) the mechanic that looked at my car (Corvette Care) said he disconnected the MAF (causing the ECM to go into limp home mode) which stopped the starvin fuel problem and confirmed I need a MAF. Its easy to disconnect the MAF and at least rule that out of the mix.
