Last fall my 92 LT1 was running ar 198-200F. Early this spring it was running around 206F. Since then it has gone up slowly. For the past month it has been running around 220+F. I noticed a tiny leak at the thermostat housing in the spring - but it didn't seen to leak much of anything or leak very often.
Today I changed out the thermostat at a cost of $13 to fix the leak and see if it made any difference, and all I can say is WOW. The car runs at 190F now. I took her for a 10 mile road test, running it up to 80+mph several times and as slow as 25mph. The oil stayed around 208-212F (it has been about 4500 miles since the last oil change, I change at 6000 miles ), the coolant stayed right at 188-194F. This is an improvement of -25 degrees (F) in temperature.
If you have not replaced the thermostat in your LT1 and its running over 195F, you may want to consider a quick change out. Be careful, some of the coolant could leak down to the optispark, so have lots of towels on hand to catch it before is can cause damage.
