I don't know alot about this subject, and have to learn. I have an 88 Coupe L98. Is this auto Xray scanner going to serve my purpose? It is a Model XP240... EDIT: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Well I'm new to this scanner stuff. I would like on that will give me real engine data, while the engine is running. I do not have a laptop. never really needed one. Many Thanks Bro...
Well if you want to do it while driving, which id say you do, you can use a laptop (you only need an oldish one, nothing flash) with an ALDL cable and DataMaster, or if you can handle seeing the data while youre sitting still, just get the cable and use your desk top PC, i personally think the computer is a better way to go than the scanner unit.
Hey Thanks, That sounds like it may be the way to go. When I graduated college in auto mechanics, there were no PC's, or ECM's I understand what the ecm does, and what it controls. It is really st8 forward. It is just getting the knowledge on the computer language so I can get the cable built, and figure out the program... many Thanks...
Ok yeah, i see the one there, the thing im not sure about with that is wheather or not you can view the scan data on a PC, cause if you cant, it would limit what you can see on that little LCD screen, where as on a PC screen you can view many or even all sensors at the same time. If the scanner can interface with a PC and upload the data for viewing, then all should be well.
But just reading this bit here:
Monitor Live Engine Data
Text Description of Trouble Codes
Capture up to 30 seconds of Live Engine Sensor Data
Clear Codes
History and Current Code Support
Compact, Portable, and Self-Powered (4-AA batteries required)

Id say it may not offer that kind of feature.
Ok, I'm with you now. Just that little tip is a help to a newby ecm guy. Thanks Mate...
No worries mate That ability to be able to view more things at a time as well as record longer logs to see the effects of usage time, temps, and other things can help find issues easier
P.S. I notice you have the little MSN icon there, add me on if ya like

Sounds good, I will add you to my MSN, if I can figure out how to get it back. My computer crashed, and when I got it fixed anything to do with my MSN was all gone. I may have to just start over, with a new account... Thanks Dude...
