Default gasket sealent

A friend of mine suggested it was necessery to let the corvet sit for 24 hours after replacing the water pump to allow the sealent to cure. I am not sure if this is really necessety. The parts dealer indicated sealent was not required. Any thoughts on this. Thank you.

I use just a trace of rtv on waterpump gaskets. I don't wait to fill the coolant back up once it's back together. I do like to wait overnight when doing the intake gaskets though before I drive it.

most of these ''modern wonders'' will ''set'' in a couple hours but need 24 hours to reach full strength and not be blown out .

The repair shop wouldn't. RTV takes 24 hours to FULLY cure. With a 16# pressure cap, a full cure isn't that important. Better yet, use a conventional gasket sealer, something other than an RTV. The biggest reason to use a gasket sealer on a Gen I water pump change, is to glue the gaskets into place while you slide the water pump around, getting the bolts started.

RACE ON!!!

If you use Permatex "THE RIGHT STUFF" there is no waiting period. Just apply the sealant to the gaskets, bolt in place and GO.

RVT or silicone needs 24 hours to cure. The Right Stuff is much better.
