Is it really a big deal to replace the rotors?? Do you really have to disconnect the emergency brake for the rear rotors and throw away the bolts from the caliper mounts and get new ones? Shold I try to do this or go to a repair shop? I am pretty handy but I don't want to get in over my head...
Removing the E-break spring is very easy. Just remember witch way it went. No you don't have to replace bolts, but they come in the hardware kit if you get that. It's nice to get the hardware kit especially for the front, the pins on mine were stock and badly worn.
on your 88 remove calipher without disconecting anything fromit and hang it out of your way. reuse yor old bolts, clean threads and use blue locktite on them . torque to specs.
1. jack up car
2. remove tires
3. unbolt caliper
4. slide old rotor off
5. re assemble with new rotor
shouldnt take more then 10min. a corner
Same for 89.. .both front and back. Simple to replace. Make sure to replace the pads at the same time.
I will add: a rubber mallet or something might be needed to break it loose from the hub, sometimes they are stuck good on there. Don't be afraid to beat it off, its getting thrown away anyway
did mine this weekend. New pads and rotors on all 4 corners. Took about 2hrs.. Hardest thing to do was to get the bolt loose that has the hand brake cable bracket on it. Just couldn't get anything in there but an 18mm wrench, no clearance for sockets..
No polishing, just a pressure washing and greasing while I had the wheel off..
