Default CAM Question

For anyone running a cam around 218 duration @.050 with a dual exhaust setup....

does your exhaust flow out smoothly? or is it a little choppy/fluttery out of the tailpipes?

DR.EVIL Its hard to say depending on what model C4 you have. Also what is the LSA of the cam and motor mods besides the cam?

218@.050 for a L98 would sound slightly choppy but not bad,a little noticable but not bad. If its a LT1/4 car then it would sound rather tame due to the better ECM,motor design, etc.

Again,depends on the LSA,so if its a 112 v.s. a 114/115 then it could make a difference.

It's a LT-4 HOT cam (112 LSA) in a '86 L98 w/ sportsman II heads

That should be pretty choppy at idle.

i get a little flutter out of the tailpipes.. not sure it's from the cam or from improper valvetrain geometry.. i used a pushrod checker and wound up going 6.95" instead of stock 7.2"

it's a small flutter but the engine really isn't too choppy

hey doc, I'm not too far from you...on the boarder of brooklyn and Queens...1st. town in Nassau...

I recently downloaded a clip off this forum of a hotcam with a magnaflow exhaust...had a slight lope to it...I really want to do this mod to my car soon but realize I need to either change or radically port my intake and heads at the same time...I really need someone in the area that knows their stuff and won't f--k me on the price...I've heard that this cam really wakes up these 350 motors....

try doing a search for Lt4 hotcams...it was within the past 2 weeks, so it really shouldn't be hard to track down...at least might give you an idea....

I got a 211 cam...211/219 and IIRC 112 LSA, with a 2.5" split straight thru exhaust...no restriction resonators in the center, and low restriction mufflers, with no cats.
At idle it rumbles...shakes the windows in my house(!) but it is not choppy, and when I get on the gas...kinda reminds me of the sound of true muscle cars back in the day....the way V8's are meant to sound..

I'm glad to hear that you are pleased with your mod...think your referring to the accel cam??

Yep..it's actually a L'felter, which I believe is the same as an Accell.
I fitted this after recommendations from some Cf members here...and I have no regrets.
My stock heads, int.runners and plenum were ported and match ported, block zero decked, flat tops..etc. and am quite happy with the combo..
It still runs out of pull above 5000rpm tho'..(!)
I am just fitting the same combo to an 89, with the 211, but this time with int., runners and plenum siamesed..It will be int'ing to see if it pulls stronger in to the 5's..
btw still using stock exh. manifolds at this time.
Preparing for an LT1 swap in the near future...should wake things up from what I hear..
