Not sure what your readings are = to ....I went to my local GM dealer and they put the key inside a machine and it gave me the Vats code...is that what youre looking for?If you cant get an answer here, have your local GM dealer test the key.Saves time.
I think you need to double check your data. The 8.96 on the 20k ohm scale really doesn't match to anything... Try cleaning the key with alcohol, then remeasure...
The only difference with the GM part numbers below is it includes a key... The tumblers are all the same....

yeh, I did,the other key which I hardly use is 9.56,but I unplugged the cyclinder under the kickpanel& jumped across the old key pellet& it starts, didnt try with the newer key, hmm, isnt that 8.56 = to #4 according to the chart, the decimals are probably messin me up.

You've got to remember that your body is basically a big (and fat - in my case) resistor. When measuring the key make sure you don't touch any part of the resistor with your fingers. Secondly, when you jumper across he wires underneith the hush plate make sure you are only touching the resistor there too....
I was thinking of a #4 too, but your digit is off.... I truly think you need a #14. But if you decide to get rid of the VATS all together, then just go to Walmart an have them cut your key using a ACCESS #4 key. (The #4 here isn't a VATS, just the ACCESS part number)
Remember you can buy your VATS keys for $3.25 at www.clksupplies.com

I used a plastic clamp to hold the wires in place,if its 8.56 & it doesnt match, then why does it start,I wanna make sure before I order a new lockset& key, this vats stuff is a big pain
just tried the other, both keys work, must be a wider variance in this 1, looks like Ill order a #14 as the newer keys resistance measures to be on the safe side, finally after 6 months,I let it run for 5 minutes just to hear the engine again,my other posts are under 88sk Vats, cant tell ya this drove me nuts for awhile
