With Corvette Forum members help, I was able to determine a solution for my cluster lights, and I took apart my electronic A/C control and found a bad solder joint. I still have my dash lamp problem, they do not work at all when the headlights are turned on. I thouight maybe the headlight switch but the cluster dims like it is supposed to when the lights are turned on so I believe it must be some place else. Any ideas?
That is a symptom of a bad signal ground at pin D3 of the large cluster connector.
There is a small dime-sized sensor on the back of this connector with a blk/wht wire going to D3. Pull the connector to this sensor and ground the pin that goes to the blk/wht wire. If still the problem pull the large connector and clean the contacts.
Thanks for the information. I have a sevice manual on the way, but until then, where is the large cluster connector? Is it the actual connection to the dash cluster? or is it on the circuit board in the cluster? or is it at the gauge switches. I am sorry to sound so stupid. If you could give me a little more guidence I would apprecaite it. Thank you for your help :flag
There is a large connector on the right side of the cluster assembly which can be unplugged to allow removal and repair of the cluster. Good description of removal on http://www.batee@umr.edu
