When I was looking at custom bars I was told you want to stay away from the chrome molly as it can be difficult to weld and takes special tools. I ended up with the removable one from TPIS and custom side bars, but the guy who installed it had to modify it because it was shipped with the brackets welded on backwards . I can get away with it being removable as our track is a little more lenient than some other tracks. You will probably have to have one welded in to pass Englishtown tech.
John,
I think your best bet is going to be going to a shop that specializes in roll-cages and having one bent & installed for your car.
The pre-bent ones I've seen all need some degree of work to get them into place, so you may as well find a place to do the whole thing from scratch. By the time you factor in what you spent initially on the cage, then add the install fee you may end up spending more money.
Just for grins, I checked the Pegasus Racing catalog and AutoPower makes a "bolt-in" kit http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/ (part# 2407) for $559.95 plus freight. I think the local guy here in Austin was going to charge me $800 complete for a custom install...

Re: rollbar????? (Joe90)
I've got a custon shop not 5 miles from my house. He does chrome moly and his work is second to none. The problem is he's so busy you can get in his shop. He's doing work for the highest bidder. People are throwing extra money at him just to work on their cars. I don't mind paying a fair price for a job but I can't compete with the kind of money being thrown around here.
He just did a cage for a big buck Agustino firebird. The red one that runs 9.'s. This is the level of his customers.
If I were in business I'd be doing the samething.
I just don't know what to do now.
I'm sure 'ol Reeves would be glad to put one in for you, although I'm sure it will be just as costly as the shop down the road from you - and then some, probably.....
The only thing I can possibly add is to do it yourself. You did the motor removal/install... Whats to say you can't yank the interior and weld tubing in. You seem pretty crafty.
Make an effort to go to Leb Valley October 19th. It's a rental day,and they don't give a frogs fat *** if you have a roll bar. It's 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thunder doesn't have pics on there page, but he did an awesome cage for a friend at a reasonable price. Ask for Jeff at Thunder tell him Lamar sent you. Both would proably have to have your car.
let me know if you want to go to poughkeepsie, ny. I'll see if my guy has time. JD you know Charlie Bower, right?
Beheheee.. Don't do that to Mackey! Ummm, Mack, how valuable is your right nut? Remember my blue mustang LX? They did the 14 point cage and tub job. PERFECT....but let's just say I could have gotten another Vette for what they charged. Ralphs right... they do nice work..but E X P E N S I V E...and it took six months to tub the car.. I doubt you'd get in there any time soon.
so that one in corvette central isnt any good that is the only place i could find it? could somone take a pic of there cage in there car so i can get some ideas
Bottom line, a custom rollbar is the only way to go, at least you know it will be perfect rather than a one size fits all.
If anyone is so worried about the price of safety, maybe you should be driving a Volvo.
