Default What does a Dana 44 look like?

Hi:
I have an 89 conv. that is set up with :a S.C. 383, Stall conv., Built trans, and several other mods.

I want to know if it has a D44 or a D36. The rear end was changed by previous owner to install 3:73's.

I want to do a little drag racing. i am told that the D36 will not live if I put on some Drag Tires.

Thanks for the read

They look similar but the 44 is a bit larger and also has one less cover to case bolt. I used to have a link to a picture of them, if I can find it, I'll post it here.

Bummer, I have a D36

Any body know how much power the D36 will withstand?
I wan to run drag radials, but the drag race guys tell me it will gernade.
This is subjective of corse, But I expect to be making over 500RW once I install my new T trim. I am only at 400 now with the Paxton ball drive S.C.

Thanks for the images

I would imagine that with a good launch you could kill it right now. Some people seem to kill them easier than others, but if I were you, unless I was ready to spend the money right now to change it, I would be careful on the launches.

I like my 3:73, but I guess that there are some 3:54's out there?

The D44 came with a manual transmission from '85-'96. My '89 convertible has the D44 and 3.54 gears from the factory.
