I have a question regarding my 87 coupes power steering... The last couple of mornings when I go out to start the car
The steering seems to be really stiff and I have to turn the steering wheel back in forth to break it loose.. after that the steering is
fine.. Anyone know what might be causing this???
I believe the "forumers" call this "morning sickness". A friend of mine (mechanic) tells me that as the rack and pininion ages the cold fluid does not circulate well and causes a "sticking" or "grabbing". As it warms it gets thinner (viscosity decreases) and starts to circulate. His experience proved that an additive would "fix" the problem. (He claimed that many older GMs had the problem.) I have the problem and am opting for a new rack and pinion and a new pump. If you search the archives I believe you'll find some references to this "morning sickness". :flag
