The water pump on my stock 94 vert (39K miles) did something weird yesterday... and I'm terrified that it's going to destroy the Opti. I just bought the car, it ran great for the 250-mile drive home, sat in the garage overnight, no engine leaks of any kind. Then, yesterday, I started up the engine (from cold) and revved it a little (not over 2000 rpm) showing it to a friend, then shut it down. About 2-3 ounces of coolant appeared on the floor, and I traced it back up to the bottom of the water pump. After agonizing about it overnight, I started the engine today, let it run for 15 minutes... and everything stays completely dry.
Any ideas? I though a leaking water pump would leak all the time... was it something to do with revving, then shutting down? Some kind of pressure relief?... If I've got a leaker, I need to replace it immediately, not wait for the Opti to get trashed, right?
