Jet LT1 Stage 2 Chip Nubee question
I'm a new vette owner and was looking to boost the performance of my 94. I have already obtained a Vortex air intake, Granatelli Mass Air Flow, and a BBK throttle body. My question is, will a Stage 1 or 2 Jet Chip help or hurt the performance with these items installed?

Is your engine stock? I'm not sure those are worthwhile mods unless your engine is modified enough that it can make use of it.

I put a granatelli on my car once, it lost power. I'd take that off immediately and send it back if you can. The only items you've mentioned that are worth it are long-tube headers (which you didn't really mention), the 52mm TB, and the cat-back. The jet chip will help after that, but a custom tune would be better. I have a stage 2 jet chip I can sell you, but it's for a 94 6-speed, not sure if that's compatible with your car or not. It added about 5rwhp and 20rwtq on mine with the mods I mentioned above. I now have a custom tune that added another 15rwhp.

take all the parts you just bought and return them for a refund. all combined will net you a big fat zero.
do nothing until you can save $5-7k, then talk to us again about real modifications. all or nothing, anything in between will leave you flaccid.

Thanks for all the feedback. After talking with a Corvette shop owner, I agree that the MAF and throttle body won't help until the engine and exhaust are properly reworked. I'll visit with him this week and see what he suggests (and what it will cost) to get the 20-25% increase I'm looking for.
BTW, I had originally planned to do the work in batches - intake, exhaust, suspension, brakes/wheels, body (seals, etc). I had planned on 10K for all of the work which I originally planned to do myself. That's beginning to seem a little light...

good deal. return that vortex thing and the useless chip for a refund as well. by the way, you'll most likely never need an aftermarket TB or especially a MAF for the power levels you're looking for.
you might consider contacting www.pcmforless.com for a custom pcm tune, you won't regret that. all the $$ saved on refunds of the other junk you got will be far outweighed by just the custom pcm for $175. check on LT4 programming though, their site mentions LT1.

i brought that up because there seems to be a consistent 20rwhp gain with pcmforless tunes, on a stock setup. the throttle response is improved, and combined with a gain like 20hp you'll notice it. then, mods in the future only add $50 in cost to another pcm re-program. that's a great deal.

Theres alot of power left in the factory tune. They never know who is going to try to run 87 gas in the damn things!
Here is a museum car for a very popular nascar race team. Car was COMPLETELY stock and a LT4 car on top of that.

There was a bunch more before SPAMMERS decided to fill our website up with ****.. They screw up everything.
You can still see whats left here.. if you can sift thru all the BS

Melting Slicks
Alvin/PCMFORLESS=GOD when it comes to tuning these cars. I picked up over 1.1 sec and 10 mph in the quater mile with his tune versus a bad tune after doing my heads and cam. Someone else I race with picked up almost .2 tenths with just the addition of Alvin's tune on a 93 Auto with 3.07's, Corsa, BFG DR's and cut lid. This driver and car are very consitent and besides the tune there were no other changes made at the time. The weather conditions were also the same.

On a 94 LT-1, you WILL see a BIG improvement with long tube headers, 52mm TB, and a custom tune. Trust me, I've done it. On a L98 car, the TB may be a waste of money, but on our cars....it's money. A 52mm TB IS worth the investment for us.

Wow, clearly a lot of good feedback. The shop (and owner) I'm referring to is Tony's Corvette Shop. He basically said what most of you are saying and suggested things like port and polishing, cam, heads, headers, exhaust, and a custom chip (that he does himself). I plan to take the car out there and try to put together a plan on what to do. My family has trusted him for sometime and based on your feedback I think he is pretty much dead on.
Like many here, he also said the TB wouldn't help until I removed a bunch of other restrictions and even then he thought a properly modified stock TB would probably be better. He also said the 52mm BBK TB would not work with the stock intake connection (the rubber hose to the TB). Even if I can't return it, I can probably use it (without any gain perhaps). The MAS, apparently is another story.
Sure wish I found this forum before I started trying to soup up the car...
