'87 Headlight Motor Drive System Question
I thought that all C4's used a common headlight motor drive system (ie, worm gear on motor, large nylon gear, three nylon bushings). Thus, I told him to look for a bushing set, and we'd get right on it.
However, all I see are gears for the '87, and no bushing sets - the bushing sets are all listed as '88 and up. So, I'd like to know if the '87 design is different than the '88 and up design. If so, then what is the typical failure component?
Anybody out there with an early C4 that can help me out here? He's got the Service Manual, and I couldn't find any detailed component description or service information in the volume he's got.
Thanks,
Steven
common failure is the internal limit switch contacts ''weld'' together...you may be able to disassemble the motor assembly and repair this at home depending on how bad it self-destructed...with the assembly opened up, the contact problem is apparent on close inspection.
