Default Oil Filter

Headed out the door in a couple minutes to go pick up an oil filter to change the oil. After all the stuff I've heard and seen on Fram filters, I've decided to change. Cut to the chase -- what is the PH 30 equivalent on a Mobil 1?

Does Auto Zone carry M1 filters? I went to Pep Boys about an hour ago, and they don't carry the sizes I need.

From your profile, you have an 86, right?

I use K&N Oil filters, mostly cause of the little nut (1") to help remove and install same.

K&N HP-2002 is the right one for an 86. For the M1 it's the M1-111. Both are normal stock items at Autozone.

You can also go to mobil 1 or K&N sites to confirm or xref any filter.

The K&N filters can't be beat for ease of removal.

The Mobil 1 filters have changed recently.

I have a new one here, its an M1-111 Extended Performance. This was the recommended filter for my 88. It is considerably shorter than the traditional sbc filter ph30, pf25 etc, so I was skeptical when I bought it.

I haven't used it yet, but the short body should work for me since I have a header tube that runs under the filter making a normal filter somewhat difficult to install/remove.

on the K&N oil filter due to the anti-drain valve, superb oil filtering ability and ease of removal. However, they do cost more.....and they are worth it.

Go with a K&N it is worth the extra $5.00 just to have the nut on bottom
