How can I convert my THM700R4 to a 4L60e?
I like the fact of adjusting minor settings by computer. Instead of manual changing line pressures, and governor weights for shift points. I have an early '93 that came with the THM700R4. Can I switch my computer with a late auto '93 computer and then hook it up to a 4L60e transmission and be set? I know this will cost $$$$:D but it's something I might want to do

You aren't going to be able to do this without first :
Changing the ECM
Wiring Harness
New tranny (of course)
Probably swapout of intake, fuel rails, and engine wiring harness
Remove Speed density, and install MAF meter
Removal of Kickdown cable
There's probably a bunch more. Basically it's not worth it. I've already considered it. :-)

The 93 should have the 4L60E. My 1990 Convertible has the 4L60E.
If in fact it does have the 700R4. Why would GM go back to an older transmission? :chevy

Early '93's have the THM700R4 and the later '93's have the 4L60e.
This means '84-'91=700R4, '92-early '93=THM700R4, late'93-current=4L60e.

Then why does my 1990 have a 4L60E? I have the factory service manual, and it shows 4L60E. It shows nothing about the 700R4 :chevy

You may want to double check. At some point (I thought 1993) they renamed the 700R4 to a 4L60 (notice no E). They were the same tranny (or so I have always been told).
As for the CCS Motorsport, looks pretty interesting! Going to read up a little more on it after this message.

Raysur,
My 93 was built in april of 93, which should make it a late model. It has the 4l60 and not the e version. I have the tv cable etc. On page 169 of the 2001 GM perf. parts catalog, there is a kit to install a 4l60 in earlier cars. I dont know if it will help or not. My opinion is it would be more work then the benefit would be. Also I mailed the pages out of the manual on how to adjust the tv cable this morning. Sorry it took so long. Its coming from Virginia (first class) so should be about 5 days.

My '93 is an early with a 4L60/THM700R4. It's production number 261 (last few digits of the VIN). I don't have the build sheet to give an exact birthdate
Has anyone priced a crate, new (not rebuilt) GM service transmission for their car? Can we buy the new tranny and get a core credit for the old tranny?

Okay, I checked the factory service manual last night, and it does say 4L60. No “E”
My bad
I guess I need new glasses. I don’t remember seeing a TV cable either. Guess I better take another look.

I got his reply from my message. He said you need the 4L60e tranny then buy the computer. It won't retro fit a 700R4 into a 4L60e. The only way I would do this if I had to buy a Art Carr tranny and use this computer to run it. Ahh screw it, too much work:crazy: and $$. I'll stick with my mechanical controls:D.
Thanks Red 86 4+3.
