I have recently purchase a 96 LT4 that was modified to a 383 stroker. The hp is rated at 430 and the torque at 435. The original clutch was a Centerforce Dual Friction and had been replaced prior to my purchase. A stock GM clutch was installed as its replacement. The flywheel is a single mass. From what I have read, the stock clutch is not a good match for this kind of power. I plan to use the car for street and autocross. I would appreciate any recommendations and experience with various clutches for this setup. I'm leaning toward another Centerforce DF or the McLeod Twin.
I currently have the Centerforce Dual Friction. I paid $579.00 at the time and it was quite a bit cheaper than the Mcleod(if I remember correctly).
I've had a few times it slipped on me (4k launch and went through 3 gears before I realized the smell of slipping clutch). As far as a rolling start, as long as I don't try to rev the motor too high with too much boost, I'm o.k.
We have been sending the Stage II STAR/SPEC clutches out on a regular basis and have yet to have a problem. They have all held up very well.
We would be more than happy to help you out with these if you would like.
Thanks,
I installed a Star stage II in mine earlier this year. So far no problems. Feels like stock, hasn't slipped and proved that it was stronger than my BF u-joints on a 2500RPM launch. Nothing but good things to say about Star so far.
Thanks for all your replies. I spoke with Callaway concerning my clutch problem and they suggested that I should stay with the Centerforce dual friction. The clutch was part of the super natural conversion and was a factor in the subsequent performance documentation.
