I have had this problem that will not go away. My car begins to miss eradically once it hits closed loop mode. The only way I can make the miss go away is to stomp on the gas, then it runs ok.
Could this just be a bad computer?? Any ideas?
I had my dist. rewired thinking that would fix it, but no. (when I messed with the wires earlier it was helping the condition, but not anymore)
If this sounds familiar to anyone else please chime in. This problem has been plagueing me for months on end now.
What are condition of the spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? Inspect the cap terminals and see that the rotor tip can touch all 8. Ohm the spark plug wires (5000 ohm per foot) and check the condition of the plugs...looking for one or more that is not firing. Make sure the spark plug wire *****/terminal on the cap are tight and don't wiggle. How are the injectors?
You can even check for spark with a spare plug in each wire and touch it close to the exhaust manifold while someone turns the engine over. Take the injector fuses out before hand.
When you go to wide open throttle the ECU goes into open lood mode and basically runs off of preset values.
Before this you are in closed loop and the ECU is trimming off off sensor values. If you have done the basic tune up stuff, I would start looking for a bad sensor, O2, MAP/MAF, Coolant temp, intake ait temp, etc.
I have a new 02 sensor in there ( 2 weeks old.) maf is a few months old. The intake air temp is still the original.
All contacts on the dist. look good I can see they all are getting contact with rotor. And its a new cap and rotor.
I have a spark when in park, the car only misses when I bring it up to about 2000 rpm while driving. The car wont miss if the engine is not under load.
Im going to try disconnecting the vacuum line to the egr now.
I had it at the mechanic and he said everything look to be working well from the diagnostic computer. One thing was the a/f ratio was jumping from lean to rich, back and forth. could this be a tuning thing?
Ok one thing I noticed just now is, whatever sensor that is bolted to the thermostat housing, that has vacuum lines coming from it, is total garbage now. What does this thing do? It has dry rotted and fallen apart pretty bad.
That is the EGR solenoid. The ECM energizes or de-energizes the solenoid by providing or withholding ground at the appropriate times. When the solenoid is energized, it prevents vacuum from reaching the EGR valve by venting it to the atmosphere.
Yes, especially while cruising at 2,000 rpm's. Here are some symptoms from a faulty EGR system.
* Poor idle
* Stalling, especially when starting after cold soak
* Hesitation, stumble and rough running during warm-up
* Tip-in hesitation or stumble
* Surge at cruise, even with warm engine
* Poor acceleration
* Low engine vacuum
Oh yeah I went to disconnect it and the vacuum hose that runs to the silenoid from the egr valve was already off becuase of the silenoid being in such bad shape. So it was already disconnected. im going to try to ride somthing up just to see if I can get it to do somthing for me.
