Default Cam install?

Anyone do a cam install with the engine still in the car? Was it to difficult? What kinda cam can I use with the stocks heads that will give me good power? Ill upgrade the heads alittle later.

I've done two cam swaps with the engine in the car. First one took around 20 hours, second about 10.

Before you pick a camshaft you need to decide what you want out of the car performance wise. High revs, low end torque, emissions compliant, and future upgrades?

If you are going to be doing the heads anytime soon. I would just wait to get a heads/cam package from one of the big tuners.

installation of a cam with engine inthe car is possible but a pain. most years of c4 have a frame crossmember infront of the engine. This either completely or partialy obstructs the cam shaft from removal

Remove the 2 motor mount nuts, and jack up the engine. Just a small part of the puzzle.

The LT4 hot cam kit is supposed to be quite good and still maintains complete streetability. Comes with a set of roller rockers in the kit.

Check this out. www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/4013/lt4.html

I almost did. Once I felt the condition of the cam bearings, I pulled it out for a rebuild. Ya just never know what you're gonna find till you look.

BTW, IIRC you do have to pull the radiator to get the cam in and out. That's a PITA too. Good luck with the oil pan, that's another one that is tough to get sealed properly with the engine in place, but I'm sure it can be done with care and patience.
