Default New to forum,new problems

After reading all the different mods I started doing mine. You are guys are great with the different ideas. I have a 96 black coupe. I have changed the rear to 3.73 it is an auto. Power effects exhaust, BPP ram air. I also removed the MAF screen. Just got done putting on chrome Z06 wheels and the problems began. I went 17 up front and 18 in the back. The tires are 25.7 up front and 28.4 in the rear. I now get ASR off, ASR service. I also get ABS service. I now know that the computer doesn't like that much tire difference. Has anyone went with 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear. I was told that they can be up to 1 inch difference.HELP......

1st. Welcome to the form.
2nd. Welcome to the club. I just went to 15" wheels but with the 28" tall tires in the rear and I have 15" x 26" on the front. I do set these codes and so does John Panuzzo who has a sister car to mine with my tire combo on it.
I guess you can but new drive hubs with different retuctor but it's not worth it to me. I live with the code, IT SHOULDN'T hurt anything.

the difference in tire diameter makes one tire spin faster than the other and the traction control and abs get confused quickly..
as mentioned, u can just live with the code, pull the bulb out or whatever.. you could get fancy with electronics and filter the signal with a frequency divider or something to make it think the tire diameters were equal..

in either case, maybe a tire size change in the front or rear to help even out the overall diameters between front and rear?

Programing would not eliminate the codes in my car. :blueangel: :blueangel:

You are right about what is causing this, and I will be changing the rear tires. Do you know what the max difference can be???

by the way, ran some quick numbers..

245/45/17 = 25.68" dia.
245/50/17 = 26.65" dia.
275/35/18 = 25.58" dia.
275/40/18 = 26.66" dia.

so currently you're off by almost an inch diameter or 3" circumferance / travel per revolution, which the computer of course thinks is 3" of tire slippage per revolution.. about 4% difference anyhow.. even a crappy abs/asr system could pick that up!

you could switch the fronts or the rears to the alternative size shown above, but i'd suggest the rears based on a look at discount tire's site and what's available.. the 275/35/18 offers some nice tires
plus you'll be really close to the stock tire diameter and the speedo will be correct again

Thanks for the info, I would like to go with the 275/40/18, that would match the front tread pattern. It would be C5 tires on a C4. Would the computer be happy???

i think you'd want 275/35/18 to match the front in tire diameter..
not sure it would tolerate 275/40/18 ..

Sorry, I should have been more detailed in my question. By reprogram I meant, new gear and tire settings etc. and not by Hypertech, but rather by Ed at fast-chips or through LT-1 edit, or some other get into the PCM program.
John M. I'm sure that you had Cartech program your PCM. Did they program for the tires too? I'm asking cause I've got the same wheels as you and Panuzzo and had decieded to try your drag radial size out this season. (cant change tires at the track) I wasn't aware of the code situation, although it wouldn't seem to be a major problem.

Thanks,
