Hello Bradly, I have not talked to you yet, so welcome to the forum :seeya
Next time, post this under the- "Car Care" section.
The most effictive way that you can clean your engine is hand cleaning it. Get ready to designate a day to it. You obviously cant spray anything or else it will get on your optispark.
Take 2 buckets- 1 mixed w/ Simple green and water, the other just water.
Clean small sections at a time. Simple rag will do. Clean with water, then simple green, then rinse with water. Eventually you will have it all done.
Although heat is the number 1 killer of your hoses, you can still prevent the eventual rot of your hoses by applying a product such as a rubber protector (not armor all), but something like 303 Aerospace Protectant or similar (a low gloss, no oil one). This will also keep them cleaner longer.
Hay, I'm a new comer to ths C4 corvette and I just did what you said not too. I cleaned the engine with a cleaner and hosed it off. I have started it and it seems okay. Will I have a problem down the road? Also, were is this "opti-spark"?
You don't have an Opti Spark (a crank position indicator that replaces the older distributor) so no need concern. We have a distributor on our L98s.
I use a fine brush and rags with a little carb cleaner to clean my engine. I use tire dressing on the hoses for a nice effect that lasts and Al polish on the intake and accessories & brackets. A stiff brass brush works well to clean up those Al parts too. These are tips I got from two books on detailing; always looking for better ways to keep her looking fine.
Well, based on what I have been hearing, I am!! I guess these setup has been one big pain in the A__! Now I know when I ever sell my 91, to stay away from 92 - 96..
Well, I have not had this 91 too long. I know this was the last year of the L98 and thats why I got it. Going forward, in a few years I may want to move up and gave the 1997 thought. Glad I went with the 91 this time! :D
