Default Removing Water Spots / Spider Webbing

I went to a supposedly good Auto Detailer and asked about my
Black 96' and it's water spots weather they can be removed. He said he could and the technique is they use an acid wash first then a clear coat safe polish with machine.Has anyone heard of using acid? kinda scared me.

Maybe he is referring to vinegar (acetic acid)? From what I have read that is safe, I've tried it but it didn't work too well on heavy water spots. I would ask what acid he wants to use and see if others here have had good results with it.

And before you do it, go to the car care forum and ask the same questions. You might also call toll free to Meguiar's and ask them the question(s) [1-800-347-5700]. They also have a how-to care section on their website.

When I bought my '95 back in '98, it had an unbelievable amount of spider webbing and waterspots. I didn't want to do anything too harsh, so I took the slow and tedious (yet cheap) method. Back then, I used a significant number of Meguiar's Gold Class applications to work the paint. I would just put a coat on by hand with firm pressure, let it dry, then take it off. It was just barely abrasive enough to get the spider webbing and waterspots out and didn't swirl the paint too much. Zaino Z5 hid the swirls I did make pretty well (and does to this day).

With available modern offerings, I would think about trying Zaino's Z-PC. The only reason I didn't use Zaino back then is there was nothing abrasive in their lineup, a hole that Z-PC now fills. I'm sure there are better methods, but what I did worked without having to pay/trust somebody else...and that's what mattered to me!

I used to work at a carwash as a detailer. The acid bath he described is O.K. for your car. It will do no harm, i have used it on my car before.
