LT4 Muffler advise

Just purchased a 96' with the LT4. The exhaust sounds tame. Any suggestions on a muffler that will give a good exhaust growl that will not negatively affect performance and that is in the $500-$600 range or lower.

For that money, its tough to beat the Magnaflows. I had them on my LT-4 and really like the looks and sound.

I've got the Magnaflow catback. Looks and sounds great.

No mufflers, have a muffler shop replace them with a section of pipe, same as the "muffler eliminators" some places sell for a lot of $$$. Sounds great.

Mine, done by local muffler shop, using Magnaflow tips I found on ebay.

Did eliminating the mufflers have any effect on the performance or gas mileage? I've always heard you have to have some back pressure. I am assuming the cats and resonator provide enough back pressure.
