I am going to be ordering a new shifter for my car very soon. I am thinking about this as I have not heard that much praise from people that have used the B&M.
My question is anyone running this shifter and if so what do you think of it?
Re: Hurst Shifter for ZF6. What do you think (Duntov)
I have the ripper and love it. I love the short throw and the clicking into gear, not to mention it is nice and short, out of the way of the radio (which I never use anyway )
I probably wouldn't change, but I don't know for sure until I drive the Hurst.

I prefer the White Racing Products short shifter by Kurt White (http://www.whiteracingproducts.com). Smooth yet firm shifts, throw shortened by 40%. Best choice if you want one with a stock height shift lever, otherwise choose the Hurst or Ripper.

Another vote for the Kurt White Shifter... I installed it last year when I had my engine and trans out. I might have gone with the Hurst but it was not Available at the time. I am very happy with the Kurt White

I installed the Hurst shifter in my '90 ZR-1 last weekend. It is big improvement over the stock shifter. I am currently doing a step by step with pictures to be posted to my website soon. It was well worth the effort!

Matt,
The Hurst is a much better shifter. I got to try out the prototype on Chris's car. It is easier than the Ripper, and slightly better than Kurt's modification.
Re: Hurst Shifter for ZF6. What do you think (Duntov)
The Hurst is very nice. Only complaint is that third takes a little more effort than the rest of the gears at certain times?? But other than that it is great. Its alot better than the ripper.
Re: Hurst Shifter for ZF6. What do you think (Duntov)
Not many people will like my opinion on this one but heres what I think.(99% personal opinion) I'm real satisfied with the stock shifter that is matched up by GM engineers with the German ZF6...It feels good to me, mostly shifts smoothe, etc. If you bang gears too much you are gonna F up the synchronizers and put "burs" on the cones and then you'll really have problems shifting unless you want to just spend thousands repairing the ZF6. Even ZF says this transmission was not made for constantly banging and that you will screw it up by shifting fast all of the time...so my point here is why do I need a different shifter so I can shift quicker if shifting quick all of the time will F up my $6000+ transmission???And how many tenths of a second faster can you shift with a Hurst or other "super" shifter anyway? I Personally don't give a shi* if I can get through the gears .00549 sec. faster anyhow, especially if it messes up the transmission...(no insult meant to you Vette "drag all the time" racers...but This is just my honest opinion... :( :seeya
Re: Hurst Shifter for ZF6. What do you think (Duntov)
I just had the hurst shifter put in and it took a few shifts to get use to it(it takes a little more muscle to shift it now) but I think it is far superior to stock. When I punch it my shifts are much smoother than with the stock shifter. I also put in some insulation around the shifter under the plastic piece. Now most of the trans noise is gone and I dont feel any heat from that area anymore. I'm a happy camper now!!!
Re: Hurst Shifter for ZF6. What do you think (akros)
I tryed 95Callaway's Hurst shifter vs my Ripper. They feel the same except the Hurst throw is not as short as the ripper. I thought the effort was the same, the side to side out of gear were the same as well.(very little) I like the shorter throw of my Ripper and will not change it out for the Hurst. No way!!
The B&M is the most extreme in terms of effort and short throw, the KW kit allows stock shifter height and appearance (which has advantages and disadvantages) and the Hurst is the smoothest and least effort of the three.
