This is interesting, for my 1991 it shows 245, 250 HP depending on where in the production run it was. I don't see any differences in the mechanicals of the motor, so the only thing I can figure is that it must have been a different tune with the chip.
I also think it may have something to do with what gear ratio that is in the car, which leads me to believe it was the tune.

The gospel has spoken!
BTW, sport mufflers were restricted to coupes only.
Since we are discussing factory '89 specs, what does a healthy '89/4L60/3.07's run in the 1/4 mile? What about 0-60?
The correct term for the transmission in your '89 is a 700r4. Even though they are basically the same thing if the 4L60 doesn't have the "E" designation, I don't believe they started calling them the 4L60 until around 1992.
Thanks for the replies. I have studied the 89 engine specs very carefully and do not understand why my console plate reads as it does.
I have yet to find another 89 in my area with the same plate.
Curiosity just has me . . sorry.

The console plate is not factory....it is aftermarket so it could say anything......
the L98 engine did become available as a 250hp engine, but not in 1989, so someone installed an incorrect aftermarket console plate..
Are the gear ratios on that site right? i have heard from many different people different information.
There were 2 different rear axles offered in '89. 3.54 was the early set. 3.33 came next.
The 2nd gear ratio for the 700 does not match anything I have, and the 3rd gear ratio for the M6 doesnt either. Unless these have been altered from year to year...which is not unlikely.

All rear axle ratios for the `89 model year.

2.73 performance axle auto verts
3.07 performance axle auto coupes
3.33 most 6-sp manual coupes & verts
3.54 early 6-sp manual coupes & verts, and the ZR-1 prototypes
