Default Gorilla in my car

Hi guys,
So let me ask you this. I went to start my car after sitting at the airport for a week. the battery was dead (I have NO idea why). I asked the toe truck for a jump. he hooked the cables up to his jump box. and it would barely bump over. let it sit for about 45 seconds and bumped it again and it started. Prior to it starting I heard a loud thump. Scared me being at the airport and all. When it did this my doors locked, hatch popped open readio antenna went up and radio turned on, lights cycled popped up and on then off, horn honked twice. The stereo acts as if it is off I can not shut the sound off (full blast) that is static sounds like I am running non resistor plugs and only 1/2 the LCD screen now lights up. It always says 1:00. antenna will not go down either. What do you think has happened? Why would the locks lock and the hatch pop open all at once. Even when the car is shut off and keys are out doors are open and shut the static whine and screaching from the stereo is still going, it has been going for 2 days now with the stereo off and NO lights on the lcd.

Christine you have more than me....at the airport for a week just a guess, someone or something set off your alarm, battery drained, you then compounded the problem by jump starting the battery (really needs to take a 24 hour charge) I'd start by having both the battery and alternator checked.

It sounds like you have been one of the unfortunate few who have seen the result of a scatering voltage spike while jumping the car. this is why the fsm says to disconect battery leads and charge the batt.
I don't know if it is reversable...usually once the computers encounter this they are toast. It sounds like the radio's chip panel and the vats computer got spiked, maybe even the engine ecm. Start looking through fsm for flow charts to check each and good luck to you.

Jumping a battery can introduce voltage spikes and connecting the jumper with reverse polarity can blow out a lot of electrical equipment. BUT, your symptoms don't make any sense to me because the hatch, horns, and headlights are not activated by any computer circuit and require a mechanical switch to be activated. If you left the radio on, then I can understand damage to the radio. If this were April 1, I would understand your post a lot better. Except for the radio, I'm very skeptical of your other problems!

When the battery goes dead, the radio resets to AM 700 (I am going from memory). which is probably just static where you live. The radio also comes on at a very high volume level. Turn the radio off and fully charge the battery then see if any of the problems persist. All of this sounds pretty normal to me.

My '87 and '88 will do some pretty funky things when the battery goes completely dead.

Try that and let us know.

Was the ignition "on"?
