94 6 speed shifter question

i want to change the shifter **** on my 6 speed. before i do something stupid, how does the old one come off??

First, pop the gear pattern cover off of the shifter. I used a small flat head screwdriver. Next, remove the dowel pin (I guess that is what it is called). It pulls straight up. I used a pair of pliars. Next, the **** will simply screw off. The dowel pin keeps the **** from spining.

It Spins off, It Is threaded on just like any other shift ****, I forgot I have the hurst ****er installed and it does not use the retaining clip.
