Great forum. This is my first time using this and hope I can get some info/ideas on my problem. 1985 vette- my oil temp has quit being displayed. I have usual pressure and full pan of oil. Is this the temp sending unit gone bad? Where is it located on the engine so I can look for loose wire or replace? Thanx in advance for any help.
Hi GRX Thanks for replying. I forgot to mention this but "LO" appears on the display. It doesn't show any temp when it's warm. I drove the freeway for about 25 miles when I first noticed this so it would have shown a temp at that point. This just happened and I haven't driven it since. The " have engine serviced" light came on at one point but I assumed it was telling me that the oil temp isn't being displayed ( I hope ).
Pull the wire at the sensor ( driver's side on engine, right by firewall, behind header tube), using a test wire, ground the wire. Check the display.
Temp should be 280+. If yes, you have a bad connector at the sensor, or the sensor is BAD. If the temp, is still 'LO" then the problem is more deep. Depending on your experience, get a factory GM manual and start reading it! Good luck! :flag
