Am interested in obtaining instructions/information on a P&G gauge. My local race track intends to use one of these machines to check cubic inches. Before I let ANYone touch my stuff, I want to familiarize myself on one of these goodies. A Google search listed only two sites that sell these ($1000, yikes), but I could not find instructions. Anyone know more detail about these machines, or where one might get instructions?
P&G is a company that makes gauges and instruments. I haven't heard of it in a long time, but they used to make the "P&G gapper" a very handy tool for quickly and accurately setting valve lash. The item you are referring to, I believe is known as a "Whistler". It screws into a spark plug hole and by rotating the engine, tells the operator, accurately, the cid of that cylinder. You have nothing to fear as to damaging your engine. If you cheat, you DO have something else to fear.
Thanks. I know about the theory, but the manner in which the machine is hooked up to the engine is the central question. I know that it screws into a spark plug hole, and the pushrods (or rockers) must be removed so the valves for that particular cylinder remain closed. Also, I have heard that all plugs must be removed and that engine temperature is factored in.
As with most "tech" folks, they take a dim view of the driver/owner helping. But stripped spark plug threads, bent pushrods, etc., are things that I don't want to risk, etc.
