Well, it's not corvette related but I know that there are a lot engine builders here so I thought why not to ask.
A friend of mine bought Mercedes CL55 AMG ( not supercharged ). Previous owner had accident and car ended up in sea. The car was pulled out of water and left like that for a couple of months. unfortunately the salt from the sea made some marks on the engine.
Machining shop told him that he can machine crank and that oversized rod bearings from a different model merc will fit. He was wrong! And guess what? Both Merc and AMG don't offer oversized rod bearings!!!
Only soultion is new crank from AMG ( ~$4000 ) or custom made rod bearings if anybody makes them.

Before I'd consider moving to a new high dollar crank, I'd exhaust all other avenues. Many times parts from a completely different MAKE of car will work.
Cruise control servos from a Pontiac, etc., will work fine on a C4. I've read articles where Chrysler bearings were used in Chevys. Stuff like that.
I would think the crank could be welded up and turned back to standard cheaper than a new crank. I for one, have never heard of custom made bearings. Custom made cranks...Yes. Custom made bearings...No. I also agree that something for a totally different application may work, or be able to be modified and adapted.
King makes a variety of different size bearings for a given application, may want to check them out.
I cant believe a machinist would turn doen a crank without knowing wether or not he could get bearings for it??

And for that matter what size did he turn the crank to???
