I finally got the new motor in and running. It is using Trick Flow 420hp. Street Bracket kit w/stock TPI., Sanderson shorty headers. The cam is flat tappet hydraulic 228º/234º duration at .050. Heads are 64cc. chambers 195cc. intake..
I just put the stock chip back in for the break in, was running real rich w the custom racing prom. The timing is currently set at 10º advance. But still seems to be running to rich. There are some white puffs of fuel, and the exhaust tips are black. Seems to me it could be advanced much more. Any ideas? There is about 1K. mi. on it now.. Thanks in advance, Chris
Did you unhook the tan/black wire when you set timing ??
When I did mods on my 87 it took the chip burners 3 tries to get the tune right. Mine was running very rich with the first one. Runs like total crap with the stock chip.
The ignition timing has nothing to do with it running rich. Leave the timing alone until you track down and correct the cause of that rich mixture.
RACE ON!!!
Ok, thanks .. any theory or educated guess's, got me stumped .. just about everything is new, ECM, MAF .. can't be good for new rings to be rich. I'm not sure, maybe fuel pressure is to high, could that cause it? I'll check that monday at my buddy's shop.

Yup, the stock chip sucks .. I didn't set the timing .. it was done at Camarrillo performance on 'Mustang Dyno' What is amazing it is getting killer gas mileage with the race chip.. 25mpg. highway, and that's w/373 gears. ??
What pressure was the chip tuned for? The right pressure is the pressure that allows for the correct A/F mixture. Besides there are any number of other things it could be. One cannot tell from the forum. It is time to do some trouble shooting.

My dash says 24. Chip burner did not fix the injector constant for the dash. It really gets 18. It will get 25 on the highway roadtrips.
