can you pull the codes without a scanner? I've got a problem. I went for a drive this afternoon and when i got off the highway the car seems to surge very bad. Enough where i had to keep the idle above 1000 rpm in drive just to keep it running. Now i have a check engine light on. When the light comes on the idle returns to normal but if its not on the idle is very very rough (like a huge cam). I think it may be an IAC problem but i'm not sure. Any ideas on how to get the codes?
The site below will give you info on how to check for codes with no scanner. You can start with Fact Sheet, but read it thoroughly & it will guide you along.
In trying to help you find DTC code access, I looked for it in the Helms manual. Alas - unsuccessfully even though I recall seeing the procedure many months ago.
Could you please publish where you found the method.
Thanks ahead.
Found them in my FSM. I've got the 16 pin diagnostic port under the dash. Ground the #12 port to the #5 port then turn the key on and the codes will appear in the speedometer.
Thank you so much.
Where the #$@#*(!@#$ was that in the manual?
I found all kinds of stuff about needing a scanner (at the beginning of 6E3) but not a nice direct explanation like that.
Thanks again.
16 pin connector. I'm using a paper clip to jump the #5 terminal along the top row to the #12 terminal along the bottom row of the DLC connector under the driver side dash. Just like on the early OBD1 cars.
