Radiator started leaking last week on my 85. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from. Didn't see coolant spewing, but steam was everywhere. I assumed that the seams were leaking, so I'll just get another and put it in. I pulled the radiator Saturday, and nothing obvious. Found a TON of crap in there, though. Now I know why my car always rar hot. My question, how well does the stock single row radiator cool? I end up in a lot of stop-and-go traffic with A/C on high. Summer temps are in the high 90s, sometimes low 100s. I thinking that if I'm going to replace the radiator anyway, I'll spend the extra $50 and get the heavy duty cooling (2 row) radiator. But after seeing all that junk on the old radiator, I don't know if the HDC radiator is overkill. Don't want to waste money, but don't mind spending it if the larger radiator will help. Any advice is appreciated.
Also, how hard is it to replace the lower radiator hose?
Dave, if you don't have major mods to your engine and you clean out all the trash from the front every so often, then the regular radiator will work fine. What kind of price did you find on a stock one. The Last Detail has the HD for $205. Drop me an email and let me know where you're at in Memphis.
Someone posted a week or two ago that they sold Griffin radiators. If you're going to upgrade, and good 2 row would be better than a stock 1 row radiator. It would help the vette run cooler. Maybe that guy will post again, cause I did a search and couldn't find it.
Just put in a new ac delco last week in my 89 roadster, was the same as yours, fluids were leaking out of bottom, the stocker seems to be doing well in the Phoenix, my cost was $98.10 plus a glass of wine, girlfriend works for gm dealer here.
I was the one with the Griffin aluminum racing radiators. Search DEWITT We are also on the forum side bar. The griffin rads for are $450. I also offer the factory single row replacements for $159.
