During a hard run to redline, I felt a significant vibration...thought to myself, self, this could not be a good thing. Driving very conservatively back home with the windows down to listen for odd noises and such, I heard what sounded like someone tapping on a paint can with a spoon. Got home, lifted the football field sized hood and to my horror found the outer ring of the harmonic balancer no longer in harmony with the inner ring. Yep, you heard it here folks, they broke up!
Now, after the tear jerker story, how much of a bitch is it gonna be to replace with the motor in the car?
If the motor has to be pulled, the first 5k gets it!
Actually it easier on this car than the old camaros & fire-birds i started on. The only two tricky parts are mounting up the puller with-out dragging it on the rack&pinion steele line runnig right in the middle and trying to lock the flex-plate so it wont turn while snugging it in with installer. You can't bang it in so rent an installer from auto-zone or checkers (large deposit they give back on return= FREE!)
I can do them with-out pulling the H2O pump... But then again i am nuts.

Been there done that too! My son and I was able to pull the balancer off without pulling the WP but did take the belt loose and the air intake housing out of the way. The trick to the whole thing was to find a shorter center bolt to mate up to the front of the crank this will give you the room. DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE RACK OFFdid move the steel line a little with our hand. It popped right off with the shorter bolt. We where using a sterring wheel puller and just used the 3 bolts to help move it off easlier. One of the slickest tools was a couple of gear wrenchs on the bolts made quick and easy work took about an hour to take off and to put the new one on. Bought a new one from CNC-Motorsports price was great and shipping quick. WRO87 GOOD LUCK
