Default Horn problem ?

I have some kind of shortcurcuit in a wire coming from ? grounding on the steering column.
The cable has actually burnt off.
My horn stopped working but nothing else is wrong.
The cable is connected from what i think is a steering column ground connection and then goes to teminal "D" on a long connector and then goes straight up and dissappears into the jungle behind the dash.
Maybe this wire goes to the grounding of the horn relay or something.

I have added directions for an 87. I am sure there will be differences with the 90.

Behind the DIC (drivers information cluster) there is the Auxiliary Fuse block and the horn relay. You have to remove the radio/climate control bezel. 4 or so screws hold it on. Once that is removed you need to remove the DIC and you should be able to see what you need.
You may want to also check the fuse. Does the Security Light still blink? If not the fuse is your problem.
The four fuse slots are:

Hatch Auto (3)
Theft (15)
Blank
CINJ/CLU (5) (Listed as Crank in the Owners Manual)

The Theft fuse powers the horn relay.
Pink is hot from the fuse, Green goes to the horns, and black is ground which is grounded when the horn button is closed.

As mentioned above, you can test the horn relay by crossing green to pink after removing the relay to check the horns. A test light across the black and pink will allow you to troubleshoot the horn button or other grounding issue. I had the same issue but the answer was solved by replacing the horn contact wire.

Good Luck

I have a 1990 coupe, and mine was in a shop for inspection and the horn wouldn't work. So, I told them to repair the horn so the car would pass. A day later and $300 later, they returned my coupe to me with a new clock spring in the steering column. I hope they were telling me the truth about the cause of the non-functioning horn. I've never gone back to that shop, which unfortunately, specializes in Corvettes.

I had the same type of problem when I bought the 88, after scratching my head for days I found that the contacts on the steering wheel had been pushed under the outer lip and there for would not make contact with the horn button. Put a thin blade screw driver and popped it back into place and now alls fine. Hope this helps.

I've had a non-working horn on my '92 for over a year now and rhelwood's post helped me to fix it tonight!

I have the service manual and went through it on several occasions but never could figure out what was wrong. The horns didn't work at all and I didn't get a clicking sound. I had replaced the relay some time ago and cleaned the contacts at the buttons but couldn't figure out the problem. I read this post tonight which tipped me off about the theft fuse so I looked at the hidden fuse panel under the passenger side dash and sure enough, that fuse was blown.

I can't describe how happy I am about taking the vette to get inspected tomorrow without having to use a WT temporary horn.

To make things better, the vette has been out of inspection since april of '05 around the time I swapped to a 3:54 differential which was never fully broken in. Another 500 miles and the diff will be fully broken in and I'll finally get to hammer it after all this time..........

Sorry to hijack. Thanks for the tip though!

This is what the forum is about. Sharing both pride and knowledge. I am very appreciative of the things I have learned from several experts on the forum and am very happy I could help someone, even with a small problem.

I have fixed my horn problem.
The main problem the little plastic piece in the steering wheel that hold the spring down was broken.
Custom made a small clip to hold it down.
The other thing were grounding problems ,previus owner that installed the sony stereo had patched all sort of cables.
I found the relays under the passenger side of the dash.
It was the second relay from the left and the second fuse from the left.
The relays are located above the plastic opening that you take away.
Fuses are located further in to the right.
I also found the radio receiverbox in there.(which i don´t use)
Pulled the antenna lead from the receiverbox and connected to the Sony.
Last thing is to find the pink wire that goes to the antenna motor ,must be under the carpet under the console somewhere.
Relays and fuses seem to be the same from 89 and 90 but located under the passenger side instead.
Don´t ever try fixing anything like this without removing you seat!
Horns must work for the inspection.
